During my stay in Dalat, Vietnam, I met a woman who quietly changed the way I think about success.
She is around 70 years old.
Every day, fresh vegetables arrive from her farms. She sorts them, packs them, sells them through her own grocery store, and sometimes delivers them herself by motorbike. Even when it rains.
She also owns and manages rental apartments.
A 70-Year-Old Entrepreneur Who Never Stops.
What impressed me was not simply that she was still working at 70.
It was how she worked.
She moved with purpose. She did not complain.
She did not behave as if any task was beneath her.
She simply did what needed to be done. And she did it with a positive attitude. I watched her several times.
Carrying vegetables. Checking packages. Talking with customers.
Getting on her motorbike.
Managing the small details that keep a business alive.
The more I watched her, the more uncomfortable I became with myself.

What Her Work Ethic Taught Me About Success. For more than 40 years, I worked in the cookware business. I developed products, traveled internationally, and had experiences I was proud of.
Over time, I may have become too comfortable with those achievements. Perhaps even a little too proud of them.
Then I met this woman.
She never talked about success. She never needed to.
Her daily life explained it better than words could.
She reminded me that success is not only measured by what we build, how much money we make, or how many people recognize our name.
Sometimes success is much simpler.
It is waking up in the morning and doing your work faithfully.
It is taking responsibility.
It is continuing to contribute even when no one is watching.
It is remaining useful. It is remaining grateful.
And perhaps most importantly, it is remaining humble.
That lesson stayed with me.
What Does Meaningful Retirement Really Mean?
As we get older, many of us begin thinking about retirement.
We ask:
How much money is enough?
Where should we live?
How should we spend our time?
But perhaps there is another question that matters even more.
How do we want to live each day?
This woman in Dalat seems to have already answered that question.
She keeps moving. She keeps working. She keeps serving customers.
She keeps taking care of what she has built. She lives with purpose.
I realized that healthy aging is not only about food, exercise, or medicine.
It is also about having a reason to get up in the morning.
A reason to stay involved. A reason to keep contributing.
That may be one of the most important forms of health.
The Life Lesson I Will Take Home from Dalat
I came to Dalat expecting to see mountains, flowers, coffee farms, and beautiful scenery.
Instead, one of the strongest memories I will take home is a 70-year-old woman standing beside a motorbike in the rain, still working.
She taught me something I did not expect.
I do not want the rest of my life to be defined by what I accomplished in the past. I want it to be defined by how I live today.
With less pride.
More gratitude.
More discipline.
More curiosity.
And more respect for ordinary people who quietly live extraordinary lives.
Sometimes the greatest lessons do not come from famous people.
They come from someone delivering vegetables on a rainy street in Dalat.
Success is not only what we build. It is how faithfully we live each day.
What does a meaningful retirement look like to you?
This experience in Dalat reminded me that meaningful living is not only about what we achieve, but also about how we care for our health, our work, and the people around us.
